  • START A NEW VOCATION OR CAREER FOR 2020 BY TRAINING AS A MEDIATOR!

SPECIAL LOW COURSE FEE FOR THE FIRST COURSE AT OUR NEW TAUNTON VENUE

FULLY RE-WRITTEN FEATURING MEDIATION IN NHS CASES, CIVIL & COMMERCIAL DISPUTES AND THE WORKPLACE

Foundation training is at the core of all of the Society's accredited mediaiton training.  It will provide the direct pathway to those wishing to practise as civil and commercial mediators, and the required basis for specialist training as workplace, SEND, and costs mediators for those who wish to work in those areas.  The training, re-modelled and developed for academic year 2018/19 is universally regarded as "Excellent".

Celebrating 21 years of mediation training in 2019, the diverse Faculty under Jonathan Dingle FRSA have designed the course for those with little or no previous mediation training and it is recognised by the Civil Mediation Council and Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. Successful completion of this course and the assessment stage will result in certification as an accredited and certified mediator subject to undertaking the three CMC required observations.

Feedback ... from Professor Hugh Whitfield:

"In December 2018 I attended a five day mediation course run by the Society of Mediators. We were a group of 15, small enough to be able to get to know each other quickly and to be taught both as a group and as individuals by each member of the team of eight experienced mediators that had been brought together by Jonathan Dingle, the barrister who founded the Society, to initiate us into the art of mediation. Members of the group came from diverse backgrounds. This was a great advantage because we could learn from each other how mediation could fit into many different areas of conflict and dispute. We all had opportunities to play the role of mediator and also to display our Thespian talents as participants in the carefully planned scenarios that demanded role play.

The course was hard work. Nine hour days, with just enough time for tea, coffee and a hasty lunch, were followed by two hours’ of homework. Our teachers generated such enthusiasm and belief that we were buoyed up and motivated. We knew that we would be faced with an examination, part written and part practical, and this helped to focus our minds.

By the end of the week we were all convinced that whatever our background we would be ambassadors for mediation and we were all looking forward to gaining experience and bringing resolution to conflict situations.

I can recommend the course very strongly. The Society of Mediators has charitable status and this was reflected in the modest fee for the course.

For the 2019 courses, we have assembled a world-class group of trainers and educators for the programme including Lord Strathcarron, Andrea Barnes, Dr Christy Burzio, Zoey White, Keith Ealey, David Ingle, Ruby Sandhu, and Stephen Malcolm OBE. Unlike other mediation "schools", "colleges", or organisations who make the same or similar bold claims, all our trainers actually mediate regularly, and have many years of experience so doing. Our trainers are diverse, and have worked internationally to great acclaim. They have seen and delivered mediation in different contexts, communities, and commercial settings. They have built successful practises and can draw on thousands of mediations when they teach. With that very real knowledge of what it is like, acting as a neutral between those in conflict, our course students learn practical and pragmatic mediation.

The training is recognised and accredited worldwide. Our course leader co- founded the Civil Mediation Council and helped establish bodies in other countries. This exceptional pedigree offers you, or your organisation, the assurance of complete confidence and commercial competence. It is mediation - for your future.

  • Course Schedule - 25 hours BSB/SRA CPD Points

Our courses follow the highly successful model it has introduced and seen adopted around the world with a 1:7 or better tutor to delegate ratio and internationally renowned leaders. The days are intensive but time flies, such is the quality of the teaching and the excitement that sheer immersion in the subject brings.

The role plays and subjects for Medical Mediation courses are tailored to that specialism but also offer wider commercial and workplace elements t enable delegates to work in the broader context of fee paying work if they wish. They include specific workplace, patient and administrative issues which are commonly encountered and are contemporary in nature as well as more general issues.

Where an individual fails to qualify they are given full support and offered a re-examination or further assessment as necessary. Feedback has been exceptional from delegates that include Chief Justices and Ministers, Doctors and Dentists, Lawyers and Pilots, Musicians, Students, Florists, Bankers and Entrepreneurs.

    • Further Professional Development
The Society believes that training and development does not end upon completion of the basic accredited mediation training course. Mediation and the skills which this professional entails benefits from life long learning and review of ones practice. To this end the society also offers Advanced Mediation Training, Workplace Mediation Training as well as Evaluative Mediation Training (including specialist courses on Costs, Workplace & Employment and Clinical Negligence & Personal Injury). A Diploma in Mediation is also in development.
Unbeatable training: careful and very helpful.

"I undertook mediation training 5 years ago. The course was hard, emotional at times, and a great deal of fun. The skills learned in just one week gave me a solid platform in which to develop as a commercial mediator. Five years on and I can say that from both a personal and professional development view taking this course was definitely the right choice. To date I have been appointed as Mediator in 24 mediations, while working full time.  I will take this opportunity to thank Jonathan and his team for the training and experience."
David Isbister, FCILEx, Accredited Civil & Commercial Mediator
Belvederes Solicitors

"Shortly after retiring from a long career in industry I attended the mediation course run by Jonathan Dingle. I had previously been involved in a legal dispute that had been resolved by the mediation process and this had sparked my interest. What a course it was. Demanding, stressful at times but also great fun, meeting other delegates from all walks of life and by the end of the week we had built up a great rapport. The experience itself justified the course fee. The decision then was what to do next; I had no plan of action but was interested in working in the voluntary sector. I became aware of an initiative being set up by the Essex Police and Crime Commissioner for Essex to offer restorative justice and mediation services and was accepted onto the team. This was an opportunity to be involved in and influence a system being created from the ground up. The majority of cases I deal with are disputes referred by the police and local authorities and my mediation training has been invaluable in dealing with some very challenging and emotive cases. I hope I am not speaking too soon but to date all my cases have reached an agreement.
Whether I ever attempt to enter the fee paying sector is a decision for the future but I consider the course and the experience I am now gaining gives me the perfect platform to do so."
