What will I learn?

  • Discover what mediation is and how it can be used.
  • Understand the essential principles and rules for safe practice.
  • Explore the skills and tools necessary to be a successful mediator.
  • Practice and develop new skills in a safe supportive environment.
  • Learn from the real-life experience of practicing mediators.
  • Gain a globally recognised qualification for a new profession.

This online version of our renowned foundation course is delivered via Zoom Pro by the same faculty of experienced practicing mediators as our ‘in person’ courses.

The course represents the first step towards qualification as a Civil & Commercial Mediator and successful completion will result in certification as a mediator subject to undertaking the required observations. Delegates will undertake both theory and practical elements during this intensive, week-long course and will be required to undergo both an assessed simulated mediation and written examination.

Delegates should note that the Civil Mediation Council currently require trainee mediators to undertake an assessed mediation ‘in person’ in order to meet their accreditation requirements. Such accreditation is not a necessity prior to entering practice however 218 Strand and the Society of Mediators will be offering additional ‘Assessment Days’ for those wishing to do so.

Who is this for?

This course is suitable for anyone who has an interest in learning more about mediation, whether they intend to practice as a mediator themselves or simply use the skills learned within their own existing roles. No previous knowledge or understanding of alternative dispute resolution or the law is required as all essential elements will be covered on the course.
